The national day of prayer dates back to 1775 when the Continental Congress “designated a time for prayer in forming a new nation.” Since then it has been backed by presidents and recently attacked by the courts. A detailed history is online. On April 17, 1952, a law was passed that there would be an annual National Day of Prayer. This has since been designated to the First Monday of May each year.
But, why pray for our nation, leaders and revival only once per year? So we decided to pray at the Carrollton City Hall the first Thursday of each month. We’d like to encourage others to pray not only on the first Thursday of May for the National Day of Prayer, but also the First Thursday of every month. The map shows locations where we know there are First Thursday prayer events happening each month. If you’d like to be added to the map please contact us.
