First Thursday Prayer January 2021

Thursday, January 7th, is the first Thursday of the month. We will meet for prayer for our country, leaders, and revival. We have three locations in Dallas, Carrollton, and Rockwall. The contacts are listed below:

LocationDateTimeContact
RockwallSunday, January 10, 20217PMKeith Neds
CarrolltonThursday, January 7, 2021NoonNeil Leary
DallasThursday, January 7, 2021NoonCraig Boswell

There is a lot to pray for. On Tuesday, January 5th, there is a run-off election for both Georgia Senate seats which will determine the split of the US Senate. On Wednesday, January 6th, a joint session of the Congress will vote to certify the electoral college. Please keep these national events in prayer even before Thursday.

Below are some suggested verses for the ACTS model of prayer.

Adoration
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Psalm 18:2)
Confession
Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you may be justified in your words
and blameless in your judgment.
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being,
and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have broken rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me. (Psalm 51:1-10)
Thanksgiving
For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. (Romans 1:21)
Supplication
Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. (Matthew 6:9-13)

Let your light shine before men

I love Christmas Candlelight services. Always have. Always will. As a kid we went to church at 11PM on Christmas Eve, so that when the service was over it was Christmas morning! We would go home and open gifts to celebrate the gift of Christ!

Not sure why churches don’t seem to do the 11PM services these days. But, I guess it’s okay, since it’s past my bedtime anyway! LOL! But we still had candlelight service. One the Sunday before Christmas and another on Christmas Eve.

It struck me as the pastor took the candle light from the advent wreathe and spread it to others candles how the light spread through the room and illuminated it. It’s a picture of the Gospel spreading from person to person to person.

This is a perfect picture of the members of the Bezeugen Tract Club sharing the gospel person to person one at a time everyday “as you go”. But what if each person of the Bezeugen Tract Club also told another person about the Bezeugen Tract Club just once a month. The Bezeugen Tract Club would double in size every month. So next month we’d have twice as many members and reach twice as many people with the Gospel. The next month the membership would double again and we’d again reach twice as many people as we did the previous month – four times more people than the first month. Keep doing this and within six months, the Bezeugen Tract Club would have 64 times the number of members as it has today and together we would reach 64 times more people with the Gospel per month than we do currently. Keep going and after a year we’d be reaching more than four thousand times the number of people per month.

Can you commit to inviting one new member to the Bezeugen Tract Club before the end of the month? Refer your friends. Ask them to put your name in the “How you heard about the tract club” field. The existing member with the most referrals by January 1, 2021 will receive 100 Gospel tracts.

Five Star Storage

While purchasing some stamps at Five Star Storage a couple weeks ago I handed a Greatest Gift tract to the manager. She thanked me and she told me she is a Christian. I asked if she’d like more tracts to hand out and she said yes. So I gave her about 25 more greatest gift tracts. I then asked if we could put some tracts on a shelf for people to take. She agreed. So I ordered some acrylic business card holders and set up a display of tracts. Pray that people will take them that need them. Or that Christians will take them and pass them on. I also included some information about joining the Bezeugen Tract Club on the back of the Get Out of Witnessing Free card.

Update to the 21 Day Challenge

Several years ago we introduced the 21 Day Challenge tract. You can read the story of the tract on the Bezeugen Tract Club site. Since most people’s new year resolutions don’t make it to February, we asked for a 21 day commitment to read the Gospel of John. Of course this can be done any time of year, but we’ve taken to doing it every January. We have an added feature now. By sending an email to 21@AfterLifeCatalog.com you can receive a reminder every day to complete the challenge right in your inbox! The 21 Day Challenge tracts will be included in the January mailing of the Bezeugen Tract Club. As you hand them out point folks to the website on the back of the card and encourage them to subscribe to the daily emails which will include information on how to read the chapter on the device (when the device has YouVersion installed), read on the web, listen, or watch the Gospel of John.

First Thursday Prayer – December 2020

As 2020 comes to a close, let’s continue to pray for our Nation, Leaders, and Revival. The first Thursday of the month is December 3rd. Carl is starting a new group in Denison, Texas this month. The schedule for our locations is:

LocationDateTimeContact
RockwallSunday, December 6, 20207PMKeith Neds
CarrolltonThursday, December 3, 2020NoonNeil Leary
DallasThursday, December 3, 2020NoonCraig Boswell
DenisonThursday, December 3, 2020NoonCarl Kalbfleisch

Each month we provide verses to recommend for use the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) model for prayer. Each group is free to use these verses, or their own format. The important thing is that we pray. There are so many things to be in prayer about including the certification of the election, the upcoming electoral college vote, a peaceful transition of power, the Senate run off races in Georgia, etc. Pray that people will be open to the Gospel and that many will come to know Christ.

Adoration
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth! (Psalm 57:5)
Confession
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you,[a] not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
Thanksgiving
Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. (Hebrews 13:15)
Supplication
Let my cry come before you, O Lord;
give me understanding according to your word!
Let my plea come before you;
deliver me according to your word. (Psalm 119:169-170)

Gospel of John – Introduction

The Gospel of John is a great place to start reading the Bible. The Twenty-One Day Challenge provides a suggested way to read the Gospel of John a chapter a day. You can subscribe by email to have a reminder sent to you every day. The Gospel of John contains a narrative of the life of Jesus and is easily understood. But perhaps the best reason is as the book itself states:

Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. (John 20:30-31)

As you get started, you may like to have an overview of the book. The Bible Project offers a nice two part video overview. The total running time is roughly 19 minutes.

Skip Heitzig offers a summary of the Gospel of John in his sermon series The Bible from 30,000 feet. You can watch that here:

First Thursday – November 2020

This Thursday, November 5th, is the First Thursday of the month. Prayer will take place at noon in Carrollton at City Hall, and in Dallas at HOBI International. On Sunday, November 1st, prayer will take place at 7PM at Rockwall Bible Church. This is an important week in the history of our nation with the national election taking place on Tuesday, November 3rd.

This weekend my wife and I had the chance to visit the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina. If you ever are in the area, be sure to check it out. The exhibits are very interesting to learn about the greatest evangelist of our time. They also provided some materials, one of which is particularly relevant to this group a guide on how to pray for our leaders.

Recently a friend referred me to a book on prayer called Praying the Bible by Don Whitney. After reading the book, I found a five part video series on YouTube as well as a summary video. The book at these videos lead me to write a six part BLOG on a website I am working on with a friend of mine. I encourage you to check out that post Semikkah7. Do you ever find yourself “praying the same old things about the same old things?” Well, in that case this book is for you. It’s a quick read with the audio book coming in around two hours. The six videos are less than 25 minutes.

Even when using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) model of prayer it can be easy to fall into the habit of praying the “same old things about the same old things” if we simply go to pray about each item in the list. But, if we were to pray the scripture, or even expand the scripture listed to the whole chapter we would have so much more to pray.

With all of that in mind here are some suggested verses for the A.C.T.S. model of prayer for this month!

Adoration
Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Tell of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous works among all the peoples!
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
and he is to be feared above all gods. (1 Chronicles 16:23-25)
Confession
“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red like crimson,
they shall become like wool.
If you are willing and obedient,
you shall eat the good of the land;
but if you refuse and rebel,
you shall be eaten by the sword;
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Isaiah 1:18-20)
Thanksgiving
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name! (Psalm 100:4)
Supplication
Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. (Matthew 6:9-13)
