First 100 goal achieved

When we issued the 100 Challenge we included several goals. The first was to have 100 people committed to regular door to door evangelism all across North America. This goal has been reached! As of the time of this writing we have 38 groups. One of those groups has over 30 people in it. All of the other groups have at least 2 people. Thirty-seven times two is 74. Add the 30 that totals 104 people! I will note that we don’t know the actual number of people who are involved. The Lord does! But it is really awesome that when the Lord gives us a vision and then sees to it that that vision is fulfilled it gives us confidence that he will see through on the rest of the vision.

The next two goals are 100 groups across North America regularly committed to door to door evangelism and 100 people sharing the Gospel door to door in one city on the same day!

While we continue to pray for the formation of at least 62 more groups, we have now put in motion plans to have the First 100 Conference in Carrollton, TX in April or May 2014. We are working on the logistics and will make additional announcements in the coming months. The conference will consist of prayer, fellowship, training, and of course, going out into Carrollton with 100 people to share the Gospel door to door on the same day!

Bucket

Todd sent this as a text after going door to door in Denton on Saturday:IMG_6723

Fellows, we just used our door hangers w/ the address and contact of FBD on the back of it for the first time. It is the bucket list hanger w/ the gospel on it. Don’t know why the Holy Spirit does these things but I know He is always at work. You won’t believe it but the very first person that we witnessed to, comes out of the front door with a galvanized bucket in His hand and we were able to use the bucket as a Segway to the gospel. I have attached a picture of the bucket and tract. If for no other reason, maybe The Lord is saying I am always with you and working things out for my glory! Praise God!

You can order your own Bucket List Door Hangers for your neighborhood.

Five Approaches to Door to Door Evangelism

I was asked recently, “how are we going to reach the city for Christ?” The gist of the question was “how much money do we need to print a postcard and mail it to every household. That got me thinking and praying about, what do we really mean by going out to share the Gospel door to door.

The five approaches in the video are:

  1. Bulk Mail
  2. Hire someone to place door hangers
  3. Canvassing the neighborhood by having Christians put door hangers on each door
  4. Knock on each door, but leave a door hanger if there is no answer.
  5. Talk to someone at each household

Our focus is on Canvassing and Knocking on doors. Sometimes we may choose to just walk and pray and put door hangers out. Other times we are going to knock with the hopes of talking to someone that is home. But, we are not going to take that to the extreme that we need to be sure to come back to talk with someone if they did not answer the door.

The important message is Jesus commanded us to “go and make disciples”. There is no evidence in the Bible that the early church hired out the task of evangelism. So, neither should we. That eliminates the first two options.

The Secret to Powerful and Effective Evangelism

I have found that the secret to powerful and effective evangelism should be a natural outpouring of a deeper walk with the greatest evangelist, Jesus Christ!

Method is helpful, but the church has focused on method; as man would be inclined to do, naturally leaning to his own ability. However, in doing so, we have made the focus man’s ability to convey the word and man’s ability will never be the reason someone is saved nor will it be the reason a Christian becomes zealous to preach the gospel! The reason will be the word of God and the work of the Spirit! You and I are the least important part of that process. I see three components to effective and powerful evangelism. The why, the what and the how. The why has to do with our motivation, which is our gratitude and love for God! The what is God’s word and His Spirit. We need to know the word, memorize it, meditate on it and practice it because it is the power of God unto salvation. See Romans 1:16. The Spirit of God draws and convicts the unbeliever. See: John 6:44 & 16:8. Finally and least important is the how or method that we use to convey the gospel. Once again, I believe the method should come from the greatest evangelist, Jesus and the examples that are demonstrated in God’s word. The Old Testament, Acts, the four gospels and the epistles are full of examples and instructions to present the gospel but would never suggest that there is any particular way that the gospel should be preached. Why not? Because it would put the emphasis on the evangelist and not the LORD and His Spirit. The LORD is to receive all of the glory for salvation, not you and I. You and I are just the conduit God would like to use us. But we are so inadequate! Why then would He use us? Because it is His delight and for His glory!

Therefore, if we are so inadequate and truly the least important reason anyone will ever be saved; why has the church put so much importance on the “methodology” of preaching Gods’ word, when Gods’ word doesn’t? The reality is that we are totally incapable of sharing the gospel without God’s help and yet if you were to attend an evangelism course; the focus would probably be on the “methodology” of evangelism. We need to realize that the first century church that turned the world upside-down with the preaching of God’s word, never had any training course, nor did they have a copy of Bible. Read the book of Acts and see how it was done. They were filled with the Spirit, they prayed for boldness, they preached Christ and Him crucified and most importantly; they had been with Jesus! Brothers and sisters in Christ, the how of the gospel is so simple that any child can understand and convey it! Use the method God has put in your heart as He leads you. The what is God’s word in the power of the Spirit. It cannot be improved on! God had perfected salvation before the world was made, as you and I know it. Our brother Paul, as eloquent as we know him to be; said, “I preach Christ and Him crucified” See: 1st Corinthians 2:1-5. Finally, I truly believe it boils down to this issue as to why we preach the gospel. Are you zealous to tell the lost about Him? Do you love Him? Are you grateful about what He has done for you? Do you daily observe people and wonder where they will spend eternity? Does their eternal destiny burden your heart? Are you trying to speak for Jesus or is He speaking through you? Have you been with Jesus?

Acts 4:13 “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter & John and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled and they knew that they had been with Jesus.”  Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Jesus Christ is the Evangelist, if you will spend enough time with Him; you will not have to worry so much about the method that you employ because He will evangelize through you!

Who gave you the authority

I got this (20 second) message on our ministry voice mail this afternoon: Voice Message

To answer the man’s question: Jesus did!

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

So unless we are on private property, then we are authorized to hand out tracts!

Tract Rack

Last year I had the privilege to speak at and present the Basic Evangelism Training Seminar at Lytle United Methodist Church. Over the weekend I received a text from one of the members with a picture of their new tract rack! I asked if I could share this because I feel like this is something that other churches could do as well.
