First Thursday Prayer July 2019

July 4th is the First Thursday of the month. Due to the Independence Day Holiday, HOBI International will have prayer on Wednesday, July 3rd. In Carrollton, we will meet on the 4th. In Rockwall the group meets the second Sunday of the month.

In Carrollton, meet by the flag poles in front of City Hall at noon.  Prayer is from noon to 12:30. In case of rain we will move under the stairs by the entrance to the city hall. Weather permitting, I typically arrive early and eat lunch by the flag poles. So if you are able, come early and join me for fellowship.

In Dallas we meet at HOBI International (7601 Ambassador Dr, Dallas). Security access to the building is required. If you plan to attend that meeting, please contact Craig Boswell in advance. Prayer this month is from noon to 12:30PM. If you are coming, please arrive early to clear security.

In Rockwall prayer is on the second Sunday of each month at Rockwall Bible Church (http://www.rockwallbible.org) from 7-8PM.

The suggested ACTS (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication) verses this month are:

Adoration
Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously;
let this be made known in all the earth. (Isaiah 12:5)
Confession
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:8-10)
Thanksgiving
I will praise the name of God with a song;
I will magnify him with thanksgiving. (Psalm 69:30)
Supplication
Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:5-7)

If you are unable to attend in person at one of these locations then we encourage you to either start a group in your own city, or pray on your own for our nation, leaders and revival.

Shout for joy to God, all the earth;

they sing praises to your name.” Selah (Psalm 66:1-4)

Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Tell of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous works among all the peoples!

and he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the Lord made the heavens. (1 Chronicles 16:23-26)

Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. (Matthew 6:9-13)

Confession

If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts. Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made. His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends.
Psalms 7:12‭-‬16 ESV

Thanksgiving

I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord , the Most High.

Supplication

On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;

Free Solo

We went to see the movie Free Solo. I am still processing the movie in my mind. The movie documents the first solo free climb up El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Truly an amazing human achievement. There is a  contrast between the sheer size of the mountain and the tiniest bump on the face of the rock that Alex is able to use as the literal foothold between success and failure—falling to his death. There is even a reference to having to be “perfect” to succeed. And I figure there must be a transition to the Gospel in there somewhere! So don’t be surprised if some tract comes from this.

In 2018, Bezeugen Ministries distributed more than 700,000 Gospel tracts.  By the end of 2018 the ministry has distributed over 5.9 million tracts.  That’s more than the population of every US city, except one—New York.  But while we can easily be impressed with big numbers like how tall a mountain is, we also need to pay attention to the details of the one soul that God wants to touch with each and every tract.

Get Into the Word in 2019

Happy New Year!

The new tract in the Bezeugen Tract Club mailing is a new design of the Twenty-One Day challenge with a 2019 theme! This tract is a powerful way to introduce people you share the Gospel with to reading the Bible. It gets them in a habit of reading the Bible a chapter a day. As you hand out the tract invite the person you hand it to to join the 21 day challenge to read the Gospel of John. Take the challenge with them, then meet them for coffee or lunch weekly or when the challenge is over to talk about what they have learned! You can find the links to read, listen to or watch the Gospel of John online at the After Life Catalog site.

When I added the video to the 21 day challenge web site I started watching the Gospel of John each day. One day I was on the elliptical at the recreation center watching the video for John 16. When the video ended the auto-play started playing a sermon. Since I was nearing the end of my workout, I let it play and really got into the sermon to the point where I listened to the rest of it on my way to work, then listened to the rest of John over that following weekend. I later started looking into who I was listening to and found it is Skip Heitzig from Calvary Chapel Albuquerque. I’ve been truly blessed by his teaching. To go deeper, you may like to check out the series on John.

As I learned more about Skip Heitzig I found that he has a book, workbook and sermon series as an overview of the Bible called “The Bible from 30,000 Feet”. I find that many in the church and especially those new to the Bible don’t have a good high level understand of what the Bible is about. This material can help change that. Perhaps you’d like a better overview understanding of the Bible. Then you may like to check out the book. Or perhaps you like to listen to sermons, then this may be a good opportunity to jump in and listen to an overview of the Bible – from 30,000 feet. The series can be found online here. Since these are being presented as the current Wednesday series, we will also start posting them to the Pray Learn Go Facebook page each Wednesday.

Finally, we encourage you to be in the Word every day. Jesus says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4) Feed your soul by reading His Word every day. Getting into the Word daily also helps with personal witnessing. The more familiar you are with His Word the more you can quote it, know it and witness to people. How about committing to read the Bible every day this year! If you’d like to join us we will be posting a reading plan to take you through the Bible on the Pray Learn Go Facebook Page. You can also find a number of other reading plans online or in the YouVersion Bible App.

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.
I will be glad and exult in you;

Confession

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:19-23)

Thanksgiving

I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is great to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds. (Psalm 57:9-10)

If you are unable to attend in person, we hope you’ll take time from your busy schedule to pray for our nation, leaders and revival in our churches.
