On Wednesday, May 5th, Bezeugen Ministries had the opportunity to be present at the ministry fair associated with the Dallas Child Evangelism Fellowship dinner. Ellen and Nita staffed the table. Several new contacts were made for people who may be interested in evangelism training.
We were inspired to learn about some of the many programs CEF has going, especially the after-school Good News Clubs — which take place IN THE SCHOOL BUILDING — once a week and reach many children with the Gospel. Along the way, we were able to introduce a few attendees and staff to the ministry of Bezeugen. Many took the free tracts and promised to use them. Several signed up with an interest in either a seminar or the Tract Club. And so we encouraged one another. Also they were very gracious to invite us to dine with them and it was delicious! May God bless CEF Dallas with growing opportunities to minister to children and teens.
I spent more than 10 years involved with CEF in my area, helping at fairs, 5-day clubs and other outreaches. I most recently was chairman of the local board. However, my growing concerns about how CEF shares the gospel with children finally led me to leave the organization this year. I was strongly convicted each time I heard a CEF worker “praying a sinner’s prayer” with some child who was more interested in doing whatever the adult worker wanted them to do than being saved. While I offered a very simple solution that would have removed the “repeat this prayer after me” routine, the local director simply would not consider it. I fear thousands of these children will one day be standing in front of us and telling us how they were saved as a child, even though there’s absolutely no evidence in their life of such. While CEF’s concept is surperb, their method creates countless false converts.
Tom – thanks for your comment and pointing our your concern. I will definitely have to look into this further.
