you know the commandments: “Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’”
Mark 10:19
This month there are two themed tracts. The first is for “May the Fourth be with you”, May 4th. The May the Lord be with you tract is themed for Star Wars fans and is a great reminder that for any believer in Jesus, he promised to never leave us.
The second is for Mother’s Day, which falls on Sunday, May 12th. This spring themed Greatest Gift tract is a great reminder to Mother’s that even though their children are a great gift, the greatest gift is salvation through faith in Jesus.
Every month we include two bookmarks. In the last two monthly letter’s we have discussed how to start a conversation and ask the first question what happens when you die?” and then we covered questions two, “who has sinned?” and three, “what is sin?” We discovered from that sin is lawlessness. Everyone is familiar with laws. There are hundreds of them that we are subjected to. But this brings us to the fourth question, “have you kept the law—the Ten Commandments?”
You might first ask the person if they can name any of the Ten Commandments. In order to do this, it would be helpful if you, yourself, can do this. On our YouTube channel, you can search for Ten Commandments and you’ll find several videos that show how to learn them in order. This way when you ask people if they know any of the Ten Commandments, as they answer you’ll know if they answer correctly. For example if they say “you shall not lie” you can say correct. But some might say “love the Lord you God with all your heart mind and strength” which while it is from the Bible, it is a summary of the first four commandments, and not actually what is considered the Ten Commandments.
Have the person read Mark 10:19. Then ask them specifically if they have ever lied (bore false witness). You can also ask “how many lies have you told in your lifetime?” Most people will say “a lot” or “I have no idea”. The important thing here is to show them that even telling one lie makes them a “liar”. You can ask “if you have told a lie, what does that make you?” They should say “a liar”. Then ask “have you ever stolen anything?” They should say yes. And then you can say “what does that make you?” “A thief”. This becomes important in the next question to remind them that by their own admission they are a “lying thieving, murderous, adulterer at heart”.
I’ll leave it hear for now. Next month, we will look at judgement. Until then you can read ahead with the verses listed in the table on this page or on the bookmark. On Rumble or YouTube you can find our Basic Evangelism Training Seminar. Around the one hour thirty three minute mark we describe the full use of the bookmark.
