The national day of prayer dates back to 1775 when the Continental Congress “designated a time for prayer in forming a new nation.” Since then it has been backed by presidents and recently attacked by the courts. A detailed history is online. On April 17, 1952, a law was passed that there would be an annual National Day of Prayer. This has since been designated to the First Monday of May each year.
While participating in the National Day of prayer this year, there were probably 40 people at the Carrollton City Hall. At the conclusion of the prayer time, we enjoyed some wonderful fellowship with the other Christians who had gathered there. As we talked, we decided that we ought to pray for our nation, state and city more often than once a year. So it was agreed among those that were there that we would have a monthly meeting back at the Carrollton City Hall on the First Thursday of Each month. Our next meeting will be Thursday, June 3rd. When I shared this idea with a few others, they said they would also return to their National Day of Prayer location. So far we have two locations set:
- Carrollton, TX City Hall – meet by the flag poles. City Hall is on the North East corner of Josey and Jackson. Arrive from noon to 12:20. Prayer from 12:20-12:40PM.
- Dallas, TX at Hobi International office. Contact Craig Boswell for directions and access to the building. You will need to arrive at Hobi by 11:45 to get checked into security.
- Fort Worth, TX exact location TBD. Prayer from 7-7:30AM
It is our prayer that others will join this effort. Please contact me (Carl) with your location so we can track you and let others know where you will be so they can join you. This does not need to be limited to the United States. Whereever you live, you may like to pray for your nation.
Perhaps there is no greater call to prayer than what Soloman spoke year ago in 1 Chronicles 7:14
if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Let’s get on our knees and pray for our country to return to the Godly beginning that it once had. Are you in?
First Thursday Day of Prayer is sponsored by Bezeugen Ministries.
