Good job, Dad

The Saturday night before Father’s Day I was out with my kids, and I held the door for a few ladies walking out of a restaurant.  They were so thankful (I don’t think men do that enough anymore), so I handed one of them a tract from church.  The tract says “Judgment Day” really big on the front so many people are easily offended by it. She looked at it, thanked me and said Amen!

Then my 8 year old son who had stuffed about 50 Bezeugen tracts in his wallet took a couple out and handed them to the other two ladies in the group.  One of the women looked and me and said, “Good job, Dad!”

The encouragement I get sometimes from handing tracts to people who are already born-again is immense.  Let me repeat that to you other evangelists – next time you are focusing on the hatred you receive, the rejection, the dirty looks and accusations – please allow yourself to remember the moments when a fellow Christian gave you an “Amen” or a “Thanks!” upon receiving a tract!

And seeing my son have a desire to share Christ with others is so pleasing to me as well.  Sharing the gospel is always worth it; we shall never regret trying to help someone know about Jesus; we will regret the times we did not.

And I think it can be important to get kids involved as well. I’ve never forced my kids to hand out tracts; it has always been their choice; But as fathers, we are called to be examples to our children, and they are watching us constantly. My young man wants to be like his dad, which can be scary at times; but by the grace of God, he is learning to share the most important thing in the world with others any chance he gets, even if it means interrupting a night out with the family.

To God be the glory!
